Husum Hotel is a typical representative of the classic Swiss style that dominated the building tradition in Sogn at the end of the 19th century. Hotel buildings in particular were strongly influenced by this style. Several of these hotels are still in operation. There are still few who have taken care of their original form to the same degree as Husum. The main house was built in 1835, and gained status as a permanent coaching and a posting inn in 1850. In the stable, Husum had room for seven horses, and in the high season there was a need for 10-12 horses. Postal traffic was connected to Husum in 1858, and from around 1860 a telegraph was also established. In order to run the expanded business, they built their own house for the post and telegraph. This is today the private home at Husum.

The kårbolig (Norwegian term for the house of the retired farmer) was built in 1870, and in 1887 the main building was expanded. They built a large dining room, several bedrooms and balconies with the typical Swiss style. The hotel has had at the most 40 beds, in addition to the dining room where one can accommodate 60-70 guests for larger events. Restoration work that was later carried out at the hotel has emphasized the preservation of the original character of the building. The hotel has previously been awarded the Olavsrosa, which is a quality brand awarded by the Norwegian Heritage. In the lounges at Husum one can find several greetings from guests who have appreciated their stay here. Among others, signed portraits of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson and Gerhard Munthe. The guestbook also shows that Edvard Grieg, Thomas Fearnley and Ole Bull stayed at Husum Hotel.

Husum Hotel is idyllically located on the banks of the famous Lærdalselvi, and sport fishing for salmon has long traditions at Husum. Fish-loving Englishmen came to Lærdal in the latter half of the 19th century. The fishermen who rented the upper part of Lærdalselvi usually chose to stay at Husum Hotel. At the hotel, there were many examples of trophies of the salmons - as a reminder of the great catches. Husum is not open to guests during the winter. The season usually starts in May and extends towards the end of September. Apart from the busiest tourist season in the middle of summer, the hotel is widely used for confirmations, weddings and other festive events.
